Cha Yen Thai Cookery

Thriving take-out business, also now with a small dining room to sit and enjoy. Located in Watertown, the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Made to order Thai cuisine ranging from curry, noodles, and chef special entrees. With a selection of standard Thai curries, the red curry holds its own with a delicate balance of spice (red chili paste) and coconut milk. The curry is creamy but not too thick with choice of protein (pork), basil, and a generous portion of eggplant. Bamboo is plentiful and behaves almost as al dente noodles. This curry is heavier on the vegetables than protein. Massaman curry is close in flavor to the red curry with potatoes, carrots, peanuts and onions. The pork is tougher in texture while the vegetables are very tender. Ka Pow is extremely flavorful (blend of garlic and chili) with plenty of ground meat and a mix of snappy green beans, tender sweet peppers and Thai basil. The spice had a nice kick without being overwhelming. Must order pla pad kun chai - crispy battered cod in a sweet and spicy chili sauce. Just the right amount of seasoning with Chinese celery, ginger, and lemongrass. Cod is typically an underwhelming white fish unless prepared with creativity. This dish is so bold and delightful. These dishes are served with a side bowl of sticky jasmine rice.
