Buk Kyung

Very cold evening. Korean needed. Stroll over to Union Square in Somerville for Buk Kyung (there is also a sister location in Allston). Lots and lots of noodle dishes. Stir frys and stews. Start with some warm barley tea and the banchan (small plates) of various fermented vegetables. Samsun ganjajang is a noodle dish in a rich black bean paste sauce. Consistency similar to sesame noodles but sweeter. Lots of onions and some pork, shrimp, squid, and zucchini. Enough to share with another dish but note the noodles are light on the protein. Spicy pork bulgogi will always be a favorite and always compliments contrasting dishes. Satisfying with a slight heat in a thick and a little bit greasy chili sauce with sliced onions. Served with steamed white rice.
