On a hectic corner in Allston, Seoul Soulongtang is an easy few steps off the Green Line - B Branch (Harvard Ave.) While their Korean cuisine is certainly delicious on any day of the year, the best time to experience is on a cold day. A true hearth. Fogs your glasses and warms your soul. The restaurant motto is after all "beef soup for the soul." The namesake dish, Soulongtang, is a soothing broth (white ox bone) with brisket, marrow, and noodles. The bones are served in the soup to provide an extra layer of depth and flavor. Note that the broth is served under seasoned. Salt and pepper table-side to season as you wish. For contrasting soups, try Yook Gae Jang with a spicy beef broth, shredded beef, egg, and vegetables or Kalbi Tang with lots of spice, plenty of vegetables (especially cabbage) and thick, on-the-bone beef short ribs. If you are not in the mood for soup, recommend the Korean staple bulgogi. Gochujang daeji bulgogi (sliced pork) is a tasty stir-fry with plenty of onions, scallions, and a generous portion of meat. The sauce is not greasy and has the ideal chili spice. Last but not least are the banchan (side dishes). The kimchi (fermented cabbage) is acidic and spicy with greens, in addition to a variety of pickled and sweet vegetables. Perfect to pair with the bulgogi and white rice.
