Sichuan Gourmet

Don't be tempted to order General Tso's chicken and chicken with broccoli. Don't be afraid to say yes when they ask if you are sure you want to order that. Sichuan cuisine is spicy with many dishes in the traditional red chili sauce. The menu lists the degree of spicy accordingly. Complimentary spicy pickled vegetables are served to start with tea. Stick with the Sichuan Delicacies for appetizers. The five flavored beef with scallions comes thinly sliced a la roast beef. The five spices provide a tangy finish. The dan dan noodles are served with an abundance of chili sauce, enough here for a large snack. Bamboo shoots with spicy wonder sauce (chili sauce) provide a fresh start to the meal. The hot and sour wonton soup for two is another filling choice and packs the perfect amount of heat. The plethora of entree choices leaves the diner coming back for more and more, especially in the cold New England winter. The old Sichuan chicken is a simple crispy fried chicken dish with a red chili kick served with delicious cabbage. The Sichuan double cooked bacon comes with a generous portion of meat with onions and peppers. The bacon is prepared as a pork dish and not as a breakfast side. Pork with Yu Xiang sauce has decent spice with a hearty portion of vegetables (including Chinese mushrooms) and ginger overtones. The minced pork with Sichuan long green beans is unique with spiced ground pork and pickled chopped green beans. These flavors compliment each other well. Sichuan Gourmet is a few steps from the St. Mary's stop on the Green line-C branch. This is what you want to eat in the -6 degrees.
