Pikaichi
The Super 88 food court in Allston should be a must visit for all. Did you know there was a small ramen restaurant in the back? With a few tables, Pikaichi fills up quickly at peak meal times. Quick service. Pikaichi is known for ramen but there are other options such as curry and donburi (bowls). Start with an order of fresh and flavorful kaiso (mixed seaweed). A chewy and zesty taste of the sea. The curry rice is thick and creamy in a chicken and beef broth with small chunks of meat (for more meat get the katsu or tatsuta curry). Mix in hot sauce for the ideal level of spice. The donburi are pleasant with your choice of protein atop rice, vegetables, and choice of sauce (soy, tonkatsu, chili mayo, or spicy). The curry and donburi are both served with a side of miso soup. The ramen bowls are huge (6 oz of ramen, 5 oz typically standard). The broth contains chicken, pork, and vegetables. The noodles are dense. The spicy miso ramen is umami. With a delicate blend of sliced pork, ground pork, corn, scallions, and nori, juxtaposed with spicy shrimp hot oil and the richness of miso, this bowl of ramen is very enjoyable. Easy to add extra meat or egg for cheap - including ramen and other menu options.
