Cheap Eats and Snacks

Alex's Kitchen

The theory goes - the fewer the tables the better the food. While there may be no rhyme or reason to this argument, Alex's Kitchen tucked into a fairly quiet side street in Watertown, argues this point. More take-out and catering, one could assume, but there are three tables to eat-in. And if you are calling in take-out you may not get to smell the air of garlic and freshly prepared foods sizzling. Something for everyone, including an array of meats and fish. The steak and onions (churrasco brazuca picanha) is served with a generous portion of crispy and peppery fries, rice, and a diced salad in a tangy vinaigrette dressing. When one thinks of Brazilian cuisine, beef often comes to mind, but the fish is a must have. The muqueua de peixe (tilapia stew) is a very large portion of beautifully prepared tender tilapia in a garlic red broth with onions, tomatoes, and parsley. Perfect over rice with creamy red beans. Both of these dishes come with unique pirao - think of thick tomato sauce with bread crumbs and instead of the bread crumbs, replace with yuca flour. Delicious!
