Lone Star Taco Bar
Starting as a sister restaurant to Allston's Deep Ellum, Lone Star Taco Bar now boasts two locations (second on the far-side of Inman Square in Cambridge) with an innovative and tasty menu for snacks or a meal. The ingredients are fresh and cooked well. While some of the tacos are on the smaller side, the presentation and blending of flavors in unique sauces are the destination. Also serving brunch everyday until 4 PM. Recommend one tostada and one to two tacos per person for a modest appetite. The Dallas spicy beef taco stands out as it oozes with a zesty punch. Mushrooms add an extra layer of tender "meatiness". The chorizo is made in-house and is firm in texture, packed with queso fresco and a dash of lime. The Baja fish is larger with the traditional fried (beer battered) white fish and sweet slaw to compliment the pleasantly spicy mango aioli. Make sure to listen for special tacos that change daily. The refried bean or chicken ranchero tostadas are an incredible deal and honestly filling enough for a small meal on their own. Layered on top of a crunchy tortilla, the creamy ranchero sauce binds the dish. And don't forget the grilled street corn, the ultimate comfort food with a spread of cotija cheese, cilantro, and chili lime aioli. Brunch is also an option. Papas con chorizo are hearty, with two beautifully fried eggs. For something unique, try the house-made moronga (blood sausage) with silky poblano pepper grits, salsa verde, and of course the fried egg.
