Redbones

In the mood for BBQ and not sure which region you want? Redbones is the place to sample pulled pork, St. Louis style ribs, and beef brisket to name a few. Tucked onto a side street in the heart of Davis Square in Somerville, a staple in the region for many years. There is almost always a wait on weekends, so come early and sit at one of the two bars. The downstairs and upstairs have completely different atmospheres - the downstairs exudes that great dark basement with a bar and the upstairs is vibrant with checkered tablecloths. The pulled pork is very tender and moist. Sauce is not needed but recommended. Hot (actually pretty mild) and sweet sauce available at the table. The brisket is cooked beautifully with a nice char. The BBQ hash is the best of both worlds - that is dinner and brunch of course - with chopped pork and brisket mashed with potatoes. Meats are available as sandwich or dinner (most slightly above cheap) plates, served with two sides. Collard greens are buttery and not as tart and vinegar-based as some. The BBQ baked beans are delightful with a little heat and pepper and smothered in BBQ sauce. The potato salad is a la "picnic" potato salad, mashed with lots of mayonnaise.
