Dumpling Kingdom

Do you want another place for soup dumplings? Give the new Dumpling Kingdom a try on Harvard Ave. in Allston. The restaurant can accommodate large or small parties. A table of five on a Thursday evening was seated without a wait. Large menu. Lots of Taiwanese options. Get an appetizer or two, some dumplings/buns, and an entree. Plenty.

To satisfy the namesake experience, the mini juicy buns with pork (soup dumplings) come in an order of six. The buns are modestly sized and the dough is the highlight, delicate with some firmness. Large piece of pork in each dumpling. The soup broth is decent but could have a little more spice. There are, of course, many dumplings to chose from. Try a bun and another style.

Roast beef with scallion pancake is a meal in itself. Four modest scallion pancake "rolls" to an order. Hints of hoisin sauce. Thick beef slices. Reminiscent of peking duck. The highlight of the meal is beef with tendons and tripe. While the tendon is slightly tough, the tripe is delightful with a fresh red pepper sauce and lots of cabbage. Spice is here but not overpowering.

Tons of entree choices. The Szechuan style flounder is pleasant with plenty of extremely tender flaky white fish with lots of black pepper in a red pepper broth. This dish is milder at Dumpling Kingdom than at other Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants in the area. Large red peppers present for the adventurous.
