Iron Kitchen

Never a dull moment on Allston's Brighton Avenue. While taking advantage of the summer quiet in this Boston University neighborhood, discovered a new place in the former (for a short time) Wabora Prime burger spot. Iron Kitchen's small menu is helpful on a hot summer day - not too many decisions need to be made. Satisfying custom Chinese iron plate (think mini skillet) dishes and they have snow and milk tea. Great portions for the price. Do you want chicken, beef, or pork? Do you want any extra toppings such as an egg? What sauce do you want? Done. Highly recommend the pork chop rice with curry sauce. Beautifully fried pork, similar to a Japanese katsu. The meat is tender and the fry is not greasy. The creamy curry sauce with small potatoes compliments the fried meat with strong notes of umami. The surprise is the cabbage and onion mixture below the meat for the pork chop rice. So buttery and silky. Adds an additional level of flavor to an already tasty dish served with white rice and broccoli. The presentation brings the entire iron plate dish together. Precision and artistry.

The chicken with scallion garlic sauce is high on the meat volume. The scallion garlic sauce is plentiful, resembling a mix of a salsa and a pesto. Teriyaki beef is tangy with a smaller portion of meat compared to the chicken. Mound of white rice and broccoli to side. While the fried steamed buns are listed as an appetizer, they make a satisfying dessert. Crispy yet moist dough with a little sweetness dipped in condensed milk. Four pieces to order.
