Desfina Restaurant
On a quiet corner at the edge of Cambridge's Kendall Square, Desfina Restaurant has the charm of a restaurant that has been around awhile that you have never heard of before. While this reviewer has never been Greece, the atmosphere exudes a Greek restaurant tucked into an ocean-side basement with lots of blue and white overtones.
The service is pleasant and the food is decent. Recommend the house specialties. Greek salad to start with optional extra fresh feta cheese (worth it). Tasty vinaigrette salad dressing, not to thick, some lemon, and lots of spice. The dolmades, vine leaves stuffed with meat, are similar to stuffed grape leaves, served hot blending ground meat and rice with an egg-lemon sauce. Tangy with hints of salt. The gyros plate is actually a gyro wrapped in a charred pita on a plate with choice of side. The pork gyro meat is a little tough and dry on its own but blends nicely with the pita, tomato, onion, and creamy taztziki sauce. The rice is topped with a hearty red sauce and strong cumin notes.
Rice pudding for dessert. Just as it sounds with optional cinnamon sprinkled on top. Al dente rice, sugar, pleasant meal ender.
